Cougars Roll Past Orediggers in 4 Goal Onslaught

Golden, CO – Coming off a momentous win a week ago, Colorado Christian continued in full stride, besting Colorado School of Mines on Sunday afternoon. After initially going down 0-1, the Cougars responded and scored 4 goals in dominant fashion to walk away with 3 points.

The Orediggers wasted no time finding the opening goal, taking a 1-0 advantage just over three minutes into the match. Set onto the back foot immediately, CCU would settle in following the early deficit, patiently looking to find an answer and level the score.

The Cougars found their breakthrough in the 38th minute to level the game at 1 a piece. Rayce Haldy would get down the line, fire a cross into the head of Ben Brown, who would smash the ball bar down just past the goal line for his 4th goal of the year. And the Cougars were just getting started.

50 seconds later Brown would knock down a long ball for an eager Tiago Gomes, easily finding his way past a defender and firing a quick, low shot past the keeper into the bottom left corner of the goal. No stranger to the scoresheet, Gomes goal quickly set CCU with the 2-1 lead.

The Cougars continued to push for more, scoring yet another goal before the halftime whistle. Haldy would notch his second assist of the day, whipping a bouncing ball into the box from the wide area. Junior Findlay Coleman came flying across the goal, flicking the ball just past the goalkeepers outstretched hand for his first goal of the season and a 3-1 lead.

The onslaught of goals would see CCU score 3 goals in less than 6 minutes just before the halftime whistle.

True freshman Antonio Lugo, a reliable goal scorer for the Cougars this season, would score another goal in the 72nd minute to put the final nail in the coffin. Pressing the keeper, Lugo won the ball in front of net, familiarly dribbling the ball past the keeper for an easy finish, Lugo's 5th goal of the season.

CCU outshot Mines 15-10 and put eight shots on target, while Campbell Wolfgram made five saves in goal to help preserve the win. Now 2-1 in conference play, the Cougars sit 5th in the table looking towards a vital week of conference play.

Coach Jack Dickhausen commented on the strong victory, saying " I'm so proud of the guys for the way they battled this afternoon. After going down early, they showed a lot of heart and grit to never stop fighting and in the end, they got their reward."

The Cougars will be back in action on the road against cross town rivals Regis University, with kickoff set for Thursday, October 8th at 6pm MST.
