Colorado Christian Down New Mexico Highlands for Season Sweep

LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars returned home on Thursday in front of a large and boisterous crowd as they took on New Mexico Highlands inside the CCU Event Center. Led by a big first half and timely shooting, Colorado Christian beat the Cowboys 75-67 to claim the season sweep of their RMAC foes.

Joshua Reid quickly began the scoring with a basket in the paint, and Schafer Reichart drilled a three-pointer moments later to put CCU on top. A three-point play from Andrew Reichart made it 13-8, and Jimmy House and Ezra Guest got layups to go to make it 19-12.

The lead hovered in the 7-9 point range for the Cougars most of the half as they continued to hit timely buckets as the teams traded baskets. CCU closed the half out with a surge, as Porter Bazil and Reid got layups to go, and Porter closed the half with a three to send the teams to the break with the hosts leading 41-27.

The momentum carried to the second half for the Cougars as Porter quickly hit a jumper and Schafer and Pierce Bazil forced a timeout up 47-27 with layups. The Cowboys began to rally back, closing the gap to six points before Guest and Zachary Reed hit three-pointers to restore the advantage to 13 at 60-47.

The teams traded punches, with CCU responding to each New Mexico Highlands basket with one of their own. The Cowboys managed to fight their way back to a four-point deficit several times, but the Cougars finished strong with a timely Schafer layup and a plethora of free throws to seal the victory 75-67.

A trio of Cougars hit double digit points, led by Porter with 18. Schafer poured in 12 points, and Reid chipped in 11 with a team high 8 rebounds. Guest dished out 4 assists with 7 points.

The Cougars will look to finish the season strong and send their seniors out well as they take on Fort Lewis on February 28 at 1 p.m. MST inside the CCU Event Center.
