Run-Rule Victory Highlights Series Sweep of Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- The Cougars closed their series at UCCS on Saturday with another doubleheader at Mountain Lion Field. Field by a 10-1 run-rule victory in game one, CCU rolled to a 4-0 victory in the series finale as they picked up the sweep and improved to 8-0 to start RMAC play.

GAME ONE
CCU struck first in game one as Felesha LePenske notched an RBI groundout. The hosts responded as a solo homer tied things in the bottom of the first. Kat Hanson came right back with an RBI single as the Cougars retook the lead 2-1.

A huge third inning for Colorado Christian started with a sac fly from Maya Schroeder to make it 3-1. Hanson and Elyse McMullin drew consecutive bases loaded walks to stretch the lead to 5-1, and Arriana Wright singled home two more to make it 7-1. Peyton Marvel doubled to center field to score another in the fourth, and Wright put the nail in the coffin with a huge two-run homer in the fifth to seal the 10-1 run-rule victory after five innings.

LePenske picked up the victory with five innings pitched, scattering four hits and one run for the win. Wright paced the offense with 4 RBI, followed by Hanson with 2.

GAME TWO
Wright picked up right where she left off in game one in the second contest of the day, smashing a two-run home run in the first inning to quickly put her team on top. Lisa Liddell shut UCCS down throughout, not allowing runs across the first few innings.

CCU smashed one more homer in the series as Leah Garcia blasted a two-run shot over the fence in right center field to make it 4-0 after three. The pitching settled in from there, as the Mountain Lions scrambled to get runs across. In the end, they could not score and the Cougars held on for the 4-0 shutout victory to sweep the series 4-0.

Liddell secured the shutout victory, scattering 6 hits with no runs allowed in the complete game victory. The two bombs from Wright and Garcia were all that was needed in the series finale.

The Cougars head into conference series number three with a perfect 8-0 record, hosting Fort Lewis Macrh 7-8 beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m. MST at All Star Park.
