The Cougars wrapped up their series Sunday afternoon against CSU-Pueblo, falling 8-14 to the ThunderWolves. After opening the series with a win, the Cougars dropped the final three games to concede the series.
CSU Pueblo wasted no time grabbing control, striking early with a two-RBI single in the first inning to jump out in front. The Thunderwolves would continue to apply pressure in the third, capitalizing on a mix of timely hitting and defensive miscues to plate four more runs and stretch the lead to 6-0. Despite a quiet start offensively, the Cougars would begin to find rhythm midway through the game.
Colorado Christian broke through in the fourth, stringing together three hits as
Jordin Albertson drove in the Cougars' first run of the afternoon. The momentum would carry into the sixth, when
Nathan Owens launched a solo shot to left center, cutting into the deficit and providing a spark for the offense. Owens would continue to produce throughout the day, finishing with three hits and multiple RBI in a strong showing at the plate.
CSU Pueblo would respond each time CCU threatened. A run in the fifth and a two-run sixth pushed the lead further, before the Thunderwolves delivered the decisive blow in the seventh. Loading the bases and taking advantage of free passes and timely extra-base hits, Pueblo erupted for five runs in the inning, effectively putting the game out of reach.
The Cougars refused to back down, mounting their strongest push in the eighth.
Aidan Welsh delivered the big swing with a two-RBI triple to right center, highlighting a four-run inning as CCU continued to chip away. The bat stayed active into the ninth, adding one more run to close out the game.
CCU would finish with 13 hits on the day, led by
Nathan Owens who went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Aiden Welsh had an impactful day as well, collecting two hits including a triple while
Taylor McLeod added a pair of hits as well.
