LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian returned to All Star Park Thursday afternoon to take on cross town rivals Regis University. The Rangers took control of the game early and held on for the victory over the Cougars 6-12.
Regis came into this series having had last week off, and they showed how much that week off helped them recover. They started off by blasting hits deep to the outfield to help them score three runs early, and a sacrifice fly out in the second inning made it a 4-0 lead.
Ethan Kang got on base via a full count walk, and
Lukas Hinze was able to smack a stand up double deep to right center that allowed Kang with his speed to run all the way home to score.Â
Two more runs came across the plate for RU, but CCU kept fighting back as
Mason Hagel-Pitt scored on an error by the left fielder. Regis would bring in two more runs with a two-run home run and another single to take a 10-2 lead.Â
With excellent pitching and defense from the Rangers, they kept the Cougars cold today as they couldn't get any momentum going. The final two innings saw two more runs for RU and four runs for CCU, as a bases loaded Hinze walk scored
Seth Gustafson and kept the bases loaded.
Austin DeMello, Hinze and
Jordin Albertson scored as well, but the rally ended there for CCU with the Rangers getting the win 12-6.
Gregory Rangel and
Mason Hagel-Pitt each had a pair of RBI and hits for CCU.
Dillon Dahlgren had a good outing on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings and only allowing two runs.Â
The two sides will meet again tomorrow, April 3 for another nine-inning tilt with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. MDT.
