LAKEWOOD, CO- The Cougars welcomed back the 2025 team on Friday as they celebrated their RMAC Tournament title from a year ago after a doubleheader against Adams State. A close affair in game one went the way of CCU 3-2, and they clinched the right to host the RMAC Tournament for the second straight year with a 7-0 game two victory.
GAME ONE
The offense got to work in the first inning, beginning with a sac fly from
Arriana Wright for the 1-0 lead.
Leah Garcia singled home
Elyse McMullin, and
Maya Schroeder singled in Garcia for the 3-0 advantage.
The Grizzlies began to mount a rally from there, scoring runs in the second and fourth innings to cut the gap to 3-2, but they would not complete the comeback. They threatened with a pair of runners on in the seventh, but
Felesha LePenske ended it with a strikeout to secure the 3-2 victory.
LePenske moved to 19-0 on the year with nine strikeouts, while the Cougars showed grittiness after three runs in the first to hang on for the win.
GAME TWO
The second contest of the day was a more comfortable one for the Cougars as they opened the scoring in the second and never looked back.
Peyton Marvel picked up an RBI single, and she came home to score on an errant throw from the pitcher.
Garcia continued the scoring with a two-run single in the third, and Marvel doubled in another run for the 5-0 lead. A LePenske single plated another run in the fifth, and Schroeder picked up a sac fly for a 7-0 lead. That would be the final score as
Lisa Liddell completely shut down Adams State for the complete game shutout.
Liddell nabbed win #14 of the season while fanning 9 Grizzly batters. Garcia and Marvel paced the offense with a pair of RBI each.
With the pair of wins, the Cougars have clinched the best record in the conference and are the regular season RMAC champions for the second straight year. The RMAC Tournament will once again take place at All Star Park in Lakewood, with the tourney set to run May 7-9.
CCU will celebrate their two seniors
Leah Garcia and
Arriana Wright in their final regular season doubleheader of the season against Adams State at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. MDT tomorrow.
