Edmond, OK – The Cougars opened up the season in Edmond, OK, falling short and losing 0-3 against Oklahoma Christian. While scoreless on the night, the Cougars forced several fantastic saves from the Eagles keeper, with many bright spots to build on.
The first half would favor the Eagles quickly, the Cougars being forced on their heels early. Both sides would battle through a scoreless 44 minutes, the Eagles finding the back of the net with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first half. A near post cross would be promptly finished to put the Eagles ahead and on the board.
CCU would come out with increased pressure to begin the second half, tallying three shots in the first eight minutes. Despite the increased efforts, Oklahoma Christian extended its lead in the 56
th minute off a corner, smashing a header into the top corner to go up 2-0.
The Cougars continued to push for the first goal of the season, Gomes and Nikolaidis each registering a shot on goal and forcing incredible saves from Eagles Caffaro. The Eagles added their third goal in the 70
th minute, burying the Cougars late into the game.
Gomes lead the Cougars with 2 shots, DeVito and Nikolaidis each registering a shot of their own on frame. The Cougars look to regroup and build as they prepare for their home opener against West Texas A&M, with kick-off set for 2pm at Trailblazer Stadium.
