Lakewood, CO – Colorado Christian battled Nebraska-Kearney to a scoreless draw on Friday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium, as both teams remained locked in a defensive battle through 90 minutes of play.
The Cougars came out looking to establish pressure early, recording six shots in the opening half. CCU goalkeeper
Kenzie Kunitz made one save in the first 45 minutes, while the Cougar defense kept Nebraska-Kearney off the scoreboard as the teams entered halftime still scoreless.
CCU continued to create opportunities in the second half, adding seven more shots while earning four corner kicks.
Danel Hach and
Kayla Truong each recorded three shots on the afternoon, with both putting two shots on frame.
Noelle Mingo,
Jordyn Rollins,
Brooke Berens and
Brooke Dunham also added shots for the Cougars.
Nebraska-Kearney looked to break through late, but Kunitz came up with another save in the final minutes to keep the game level. The Cougars ultimately held the Lopers scoreless, finishing the afternoon with 13 shots compared to nine from Nebraska-Kearney.
Kunitz finished with two saves in the shutout, while Nebraska-Kearney goalkeeper Susie Bovaird recorded five saves.
Now 1-2-2, the Cougars have their second home matchup against Fort Hays State on Sunday, September 13
th. Kickoff is set for 11am at Trailblazer Stadium.
