GOODYEAR, AZ- CCU began the season at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Arizona Monday and Tuesday this week. After two rounds of play, the new look Cougars tied for 14th place overall at the tournament.
ROUND ONE
Annabeth Boyd led the Cougars in her first collegiate round of golf as she fired a 77 for her team.
Bella Slattery followed with a 79, while newcomer
Karina Garcia carded an 83.
Ava McLain shot an 87 and
Paige Thompson had an 89 to close out the first round.
ROUND TWO
Boyd was stellar once again in the second and final round of competition, finishing with a 76 with three birdies to tie for 31st. Slattery tied for 51st with a 79, while McLain improved with a 78 to tie for 75th. Garcia had an 82 to tie her teammate for 75th, and Thompson closed with an 81 to claim 82nd overall.
As a team, the Cougars shot an overall score of 640 (326, 314) to claim a tie for 14th overall at the tournament. Cal State San Marcos claimed the victory by going three under par in total.
CCU will be back in action as they head to South Jordan, Utah to take part in the Westminster Wasatch Invitational September 20-21 at Glenmoor Golf Club.
