Lakewood, CO – In their second conference game, CCU tied the vising Griffins, the game ending in a 0-0 deadlock. Despite creating several opportunities, the Cougars would come short in finding the game winning goal.
The Cougars came out on the front foot, immediately firing off shots and testing the Westminster goalkeeper. Truong would manage a shot just 2 minutes into the game, with Byrd following up just 10 minutes later. Kunitz had a quiet half between the posts, and despite several opportunities, both sides entered half in a 0-0 deadlock.
The Cougars continued to push the pace in the second half, recording 10 shots and adding two more corner kicks. With the clock still winding down, the best chance of the game came deep in the half from
Sophia Tagge. A cross from Truong found Tagges foot, putting the shot on target, high in the middle of the frame. A save from the Maverick keeper would keep the teams even through the final whistle.
The morning saw a disappointing tie from the Cougars, CCU outshooting the Griffins 14-6, with 4 more corners and the majority of possession. Truong led the Cougars with 5 shots,
Alexis Byrd close behind with 4 of her own.
The tie marks Colorado Christians 3
rd shutout of the season, the Cougars still looking for their first conference victory. Now 1-3-4, 0-1-1 in conference the Cougars sit 10th in the conference standings.
CCU looks to UCCS for their next conference matchup, a very strong side as the Cougars look to turn heads early in conference play. Kickoff is set for 7pm on Thursday, September 24
th at Mountain Lion Stadium.
