Lakewood, CO – A back and forth battle between Colorado Christian and Biola ended in a 2-2 draw on Saturday morning, as the Cougars remain unbeaten at home. Despite the Cougars taking the lead twice, and Biola clawing their way back into the game all the same, neither side would find the game winning goal.
The game would start frantic, several chances had in the opening minutes. Both teams would exchange shots through the first half,
Campbell Wolfgram making several key saves to keep the game level.
The Cougars would break the silence first in the 39
th minute. A quick throw to a sprinting
Benjamin Brown would leave him driving with the ball in the box, a Biola defender flying in, smashing Brown, and giving the Cougars a penalty. Calm and collected, Brown slotted the ball bottom left for the first goal of the game.
Déjà Vu from last match, Biola would only need 28 seconds to respond. A well placed ball across the box would be headed past Wolfgram to level the game before the halftime whistle, the Cougars lead short-lived.
The second half would see the Cougars come out firing,
Antonio Lugo working his magic up top in the 49
th minute. With Biola in possession of the ball, Lugo came flying out on the press, winning the ball off the center back and sprinting towards Biola's net. As the keeper came out, Lugo would keep the ball, dribbling wide past the keeper for a calmly slotted goal and the lead.
Biola would find its answer in the 60
th minute, scoring a free kick 20 yards out, bending the ball around the wall to level the match. CCU continued to create opportunities throughout the remainder of the match, outshooting Biola 13-5 in the second half. Nikolaidis nearly put the Cougars back in front in the 64
th minute, sending a shot off the left post before coming close again moments later.
The final whistle would ultimately end the game in a 2-2 draw. Lugo and Brown each found the back of the net for the Cougars, Lugo's finding his second goal of the season. Wolfgram finished the afternoon with four saves to help keep the Cougars level through the 90 minutes.
The Cougars will continue their home stretch on Thursday, September 10
th against DBU, the Cougars now 1-1-2. Kickoff is set for 1pm MST at Trailblazer Stadium.
