David Thomas

After spending eight years as a high school basketball head coach and assistant, David Thomas enters his second season as graduate assistant coach at Colorado Christian University. Thomas will play an important role in the advancement of the program though administrative efforts and recruiting.
 
He comes to Lakewood after being a head high school coach for the past four seasons. Most recently he was the director and operator of AZ Power Tucson Basketball in Tucson, AZ which is the largest AAU basketball program in southern Arizona. Over the past seven years the program furthered the playing career of over 50 student athletes ranging from NCAA Division-I schools all the way to NAIA, most notably Mitchell Lightfoot (University of Kansas), Talbot Denny (University of Arizona), and Brendan Rumel (Portland State University). Further, in 2015 Coach Thomas was selected high school “Division III Coach of the Year” by AllSportsTucson, Northwest Explorer, and Arizona Preps publications.
 
Coach Thomas has also been an assistant coach to Arizona High School Hall of Fame coach Brian Peabody who has amassed over 500 career wins. While under the direction of Coaches Brian Peabody and Mike Morgan they shared many successes including two undefeated regular seasons, a sectional title, and 2 state tournament appearances.
 
Thomas attended college at Southwestern College in Phoenix, AZ where he played basketball and soccer from 2006-2010. He played basketball under head coach Rick Roth. While at Southwestern College, the team enjoyed some of the most successful years with West Region Conference Championships three out of the four years and three trips to the NCCAA D-II National Basketball Tournament.
 
Thomas graduated in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Biblical Studies. He will be pursing his master’s degree in Organizational Leadership at Colorado Christian University.
 
Coach Thomas brings along with him his wife Ashley whom he married in 2011 and their two young boys Christopher Landon (4 years old) and newborn (September 25th) Benjamin Dean.
