Colorado Christian Volleyball opened Saturday night celebrating seniors
Jordan Kessler and
Ali Weber. Less than an hour and a half later, the Cougar squad was celebrating a heavy-handed win – their 16
th of the season and the eighth in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Â
The visiting Eagles of Chadron State proved no match against CCU's fired up squad. In fact, Christian cruised in dominating fashion, winning 25-8, 25-13, 25-11 against a CSC squad that earned only 25 points on the night. While Chadron managed a meager 21 kills (-.029), Colorado Christian flexed a 41-kill showing and a .347 attack clip. From the opening moments of the match, it was clear the blue and gold would own the night.
Â
Though the match was never in question, Christian did the majority of their damage in the first set. Behind the play of their red-hot seniors, the Cougars unleashed. In no time at all, CCU held an impressive 21-4 lead in the set. The damage to the visiting Eagles proved both crushing and irreversible.
Â
With all eyes on them, Kessler and Weber ruled the court. Whether on offense or defense, the two teamed up time and again to punish Chadron's every attempt. As a blocking duo, the seniors tallied seven blocks apiece. Offensively, the Kessler to Weber show proved unstoppable, with Weber killing 11 Kessler assists to lead the night's hitters (.688).
Â
"I could not have asked for anything more on senior night," Kessler gushed after the match. "From the support of my family, the coaching staff, and my teammates, this was an incredible night."
Â
Mollie Bailey turned in a strong showing as well, hitting a .571 on an eight-kill effort. Neither Bailey nor Weber tallied a single error at the net.
Â
CCU closed out the match with 11 blocks compared to just two from the Eagles. The Cougars also totaled 39 digs – almost twice the number their opponents would produce.
Â
"Everyone was in sync tonight," Kessler continued, "the passes, the digs, the serves, the hits, the blocks. I am so proud of how well my team performed and honored God. We truly reflected the glory of our Lord tonight in how we performed."
Â
One more road weekend remains on the Cougars' regular-season schedule. They'll travel to Colorado Springs Friday for a 7 pm match against UCCS before making the short trip to Regis University on Saturday.
