CCU Volleyball dropped their second-straight contest Saturday night, falling in a disappointing five-set match at Regis University in Denver.
Â
Still stinging from a swift loss at UCCS Friday night, Colorado Christian entered the Regis match eager for a return to the win column. Unfortunately, the home Rangers came ready to play too. RU used a dominating attack to take the first set 25-18. Though the Cougars hit well in the opener, Regis fared better, boasting a .342 kill percentage and 17 kills.
Â
It didn't take long for Christian to rebound. Doing their best to lengthen the match, CCU turned up the heat in the second. The result was a heavy-handed Cougar win – 25-15 thanks to a .364 clip at the net. The visiting Cougars rolled from there, cruising through set number three to take the advantage in the match.
Â
Set four featured a tight battle, though a narrow Ranger lead grew as the hours in the game waned. By the end of the set, Regis' impressive 18-kill effort proved the deciding factor in the 25-20 RU win.
Â
Deadlocked and ready for the game-five sprint, the squads jumped out with sights set on a victory. Unfortunately, by then the Rangers' first-set moxie was back. Regis dominated the finale, flashing 11 kills compared to six from the Cougars.
Â
Christian junior
Taylor Sturms led all hitters in the loss, tallying 21 kills to go along with 18 digs. Junior
Kaylee Pierce added 16 kills, while
Ali Weber boasted a seven-kill showing without a single miscue.
Â
Regis hitters totaled 14 more kills than Colorado Christian. Their dominance continued on the other side of the ball, as the home team amassed 84 digs compared to 68 from CCU.
Â
The Cougars depart from RMAC play with a Tuesday contest at Colorado College before returning to conference action on Friday and Saturday. CCU hosts Colorado Mines and Metro State to close out the regular season.
