Colorado Christian put together their most complete game of the year and raced past Bethany College 96-63 Saturday night in Lakewood.
Â
The Cougars were clicking on both ends of the floor, making sure the visiting Swedes never had a chance. Christian held BC to just 38.5% shooting on the night, and perhaps more importantly, didn't allow the guests any additional opportunities. CCU pounded the Swedes on the boards 39-20 while only giving up two second-chance points.
Â
The stops on the defensive end gave way to a free-flowing, balanced attack on offense that Bethany could not contain. The Cougars shot the ball at a blistering 55.9% clip and did the most damage from downtown, hitting 15 treys while connecting on 60% of their attempts.
Â
Senior
Michael Brown went 5-for-7 from beyond on the arc on the way to a game-high 23 points, with 17 of those coming in the second half. After tonight's output, Brown sits at 981 career points and appears on the verge of breaking the 1,000 point-mark next weekend on the road.
Â
Wayne McCullough added 17 points and
Isaiah Hanson had a breakout game scoring 16 with four threes.
Andrew Squiers, making the transition to point guard this season, put together a solid performance with a line of five points, five rebounds and eight assists with zero turnovers.
Â
After consecutive wins that saw the Cougars climb back to .500, Head Coach
Kevin Lubbers was pleased with his team's progress.
Â
"It was a really good weekend. Our bench, assistant coaches and everyone up and down the line did their job. Our execution got better on both ends which was and will continue to be our goal heading in to each game," commented Lubbers.
Â
Execution will be crucial with familiar foes now on the horizon. Christian opens conference play next weekend, heading on the road to take on New Mexico Highlands December 5
th followed by Western New Mexico on the 6
th.
