RMAC opponent Fort Lewis College used a monster first half to down CCU Basketball in Durango Friday, winning 92-79. Though Colorado Christian shot 51% after the break, the blue and gold could not overcome a 15-point halftime deficit. With the loss, the Cougars dropped to 9-9 on the year and 6-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Â
FLC set the pace of the game early, jumping on top of the Christian squad thanks to eight long distance makes. Among the three-point buckets was a buzzer-beating trey from Skyhawk guard Cade Kloster – a stinging cap to a frustrating first period for CCU's Cougars. Down 44-29 at the break, Colorado Christian would need a boost in the second to overcome FLC's early dominance.
Â
Unfortunately, while the Cougars managed to increase their offensive efficiency in the later half, their defense could not stop a Fort Lewis attack that hit 38 foul shots on 49 tries. FLC senior Alex Herrera alone managed as many makes at the line as the entire Colorado Christian squad attempted, going 20-for-26 from the charity stripe. Though they hit just eight times from the field in the closing 20, the home Skyhawks scored a head-turning 30 points from the line to seal the win.

Christian guards
Wayne McCullough and
Michael Brown did their best to keep CCU in the game, combining for 45 points to lead the visiting Cougars. Brown notched a game-best six makes from downtown, while McCullough went a perfect 10-for-10 from the line.

Another road contest awaits Colorado Christian this weekend – they'll travel to Alamosa Saturday for a 7pm match-up against Adams State. ASU won last year's meeting between the teams, a 103-91 decision in Lakewood. The Grizzlies sit just above CCU in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with a 9-6 overall record and a 6-6 conference mark.
