Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Furious Second Half Rally Ends in Defeat for the Lady Cougars

The Colorado Christian women's soccer team took on New Mexico Highlands University on Friday afternoon, but came away with a loss as they were defeated 3-2. A defensive battle in the first half quickly gave way to the offensive side in the second as three total goals were scored by NMHU within a minute and a half early in the second period.

Heading into the 65th minute in the second half the game was still at a 0-0 tie, when the opening shot was fired by Highlands. CCU promptly answered the bell and scored a goal of their own just 39 seconds after. The goal came off of a header by freshman Mollie Monson who netted a perfect cross pass from teammate, junior Meghan Troupe. New Mexico took the lead less than a minute later and then added what would be the game winning third goal with nearly ten minutes left in the half. The Cougars did not go down without a fight as they drew to within one again when senior Cora Aversano blasted a penalty kick into the back of the net with less than seven minutes remaining in the game, but were unable to get the equalizer and send the game into overtime.

With the loss, the Cougars drop to 0-12-2 on the year and 0-7-1 in conference play. Their next games comes on Sunday when they will head to Pueblo to take on CSU-Pueblo. Game time is scheduled for 12PM.
