CCU Volleyball had a five set shoot-out with the Regis Rangers on Friday night. This match marks the sixth volleyball win ever in Colorado Christian University history against Regis University. The night played out in five sets with scores of 26-24, 20-25, 12-25, 25-19, and 15-6 in the Cougars' favor.
The game started off with a close battle between the teams. It was tough to tell who would come out on top in the first set, but CCU was able to slide by with the win. The next two sets were tough for Christian as they started to get shut down in the front row. After the brutal third set loss, the Lady Cougs got serious and put together some of the best volleyball they have played all season long.
Hope Baldrica changed the face of CCU Volleyball in this match with a massive offensive and defensive showing. Baldrica had nine blocks, two solo blocks, eight kills, and hit a .227.
Outside Hitter,
Connie Olson led the team with 12 kills and 13 digs, and right side hitter
Kaylee Pierce had 10 kills against the Rangers.
Mollie Bailey also led in the front row with nine kills and five blocks. Freshman setter,
Kylee Wurster saved 10 balls in the back row for blue and gold.
Colo. Christian and Regis had almost identical stats in every arena in this match expect blocks. CCU had 26 total blocks, which trumped Regis' 10.
Junior Middle,
Sophia Proano had some words after the game. "The fight I saw in each one of my teammates tonight was extraordinary. I think there was a vital turning point after the third set where we decided it was time to fight for this game and work harder than the other team. I am so proud of the effort and energy the team brought on the court tonight." Proano had eight kills and three block against RU.
Colorado Christian Volleyball will be traveling to Chadron State College on Saturday October 17
th for a 7pm start.
