Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

CCU Downed by Adams State

The Cougars lost in a close battle Friday afternoon, as they were defeated by Adams State 3-2. This was the second match between the two teams as they met just one week ago in Alamosa where they battled to a 0-0 tie. Both teams wasted little time getting onto the scoreboard in this matchup.

Just over six minutes into the game, Colorado Christian jumped out to an early lead. Following a foul inside the box, sophomore Joe Wilkes scorched a penalty kick past the Grizzlies goalie. ASU answered with two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead before Colorado Christian tied the game up 2-2 just before halftime. The second goal was scored by junior Sam Walbearer took a rebound off of the ASU goalie and promptly put it in the back of the net.

With the game now tied at two, both defenses turned the intensity up. Junior Brandon Eide made a few spectacular saves to keep it all square, including a diving save where he batted the ball away with one hand preventing the goal.

Unfortunately, the defense gave way late in the second half when Adams State scored the go ahead game winning goal. Even though the end result was not what they were looking for, the game was still a big step forward for Coach Gary Evans and the young Cougar squad. The offense came alive and scored multiple goals for the first time this season.

The loss drops their season record to 1-13-1, and 1-9-1 in RMAC play. CCU will be back in action on Sunday as they will be taking on Fort Lewis College. The game will be hosted at Trailblazer Stadium at 11 AM
