CCU Volleyball had their claws out for their match against Colorado State University Pueblo. It was a fast, three set game victory for the Lady Cougars with scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 26-24. This was an exciting win for Christian and puts them at 10-12 overall and 6-7 in RMAC play.
The Cougars dominated in the stats column the whole match. The first set was a clinic for blue and gold as they earned 14 kills, 19 digs, and three blocks. Their total hitting percentage was .294.
The second set continued to get even better as the Cougs escalated their scrappy defense and lethal offense. With 18 digs, 13 kills and only two total errors at the net, it looked like CCU was unstoppable after that second game.
Colo. Christian Sophomore from Naperville, IL,
Angela Jurek was the top scorer for the night with 10 kills and a total hitting percentage of .276.
Hope Baldrica played amazing defense at the net and was able to get five blocks for blue and gold, three of them being huge solo blocks. Baldrica also had five kills, no errors, and hit a .556. This kind of play really feeded the Cougars' momentum when it mattered most in the third set.
Towards the end of set number three Pueblo and Christian were neck and neck. The Thunderwolves were fighting for their lives, while Colorado Christian just wanted to end the battle. Both teams struggled at the net, but in the back row put on a show with 24 digs for CCU, and 25 digs for CSUP. Cougar defensive specialist
Marissa Lumpkin and libero
Joelle LeFevre both had 11 digs, and outside hitter
Connie Olson had a team high of 12 digs. The Lady Cougars were able to pull it off with a match winning ace by
Jordan Carswell, which gave her two for the night.
Coach
Andria Harshman stated after the match, "We are excited to see the team bounce back from a tough match Friday and play more focused and mentally tough. They executed the game plan perfectly. We were able to clamp down defensively in the back row and on blocking, and also got nice contributions across the board offensively."
