Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Senior Night Spoiled by #8 Mines

The eighth ranked Colorado School of Mines team defeated the Cougars by a final score of 4-0 on Wednesday night in Lakewood, CO. The final home game of the year began as a defensive battle, but a second half barrage of goals by Mines in the second half turned the game into a blowout.

After a scoreless first half, both teams were looking primed to make a second half run. CCU was trying to give Mines their first loss on the year, and Mines was looking to keep their perfect record alive. Mines started the scoring early in the second half as less than five minutes in, they managed to get one past junior goalie Brandon Eide. Within the next 13 minutes, CSM added three more goals to finish out the scoring on the day.

Three Cougars played their final home game in their careers today and they were honored before the game. Coach Gary Evans was very complimentary of all three players, and was grateful for all of the hard work and dedication that they gave to the program.

John Weber played for the Cougars over the past two seasons. He played in 14 games total and scored one goal in his career. Along with his play on the field, Weber also is very accomplished musically as he plays clarinet for the CCU orchestra and also sings with the choir. He has represented the school with integrity and honor, and will be missed by the program.

Adam Hern transferred into CCU and played his final two years as a member of the Cougars. In his two year stretch he provided maturity and leadership to the young CCU squad. He played in 31 games and had over 2,500 minutes played. He has also been active in the community and has served in global missions across three different continents. His strong leadership on and off of the field was a strong foundation for this team.

Calvin Beck played, and started for the Cougars all four years. Today marked his 47th game and by the end of this season he will have played more than 4,000 minutes in his career. He tallied four goals and five assists. He had explosive speed which terrorized the opponents. He had some incredible highlight reel goals during his tenure and always was finding ways to make plays happen.
