The 23
rd ranked Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team defeated Colorado Christian on Wednesday night by a final score of 1-0. The Cougars gave a valiant effort, but in the end were unable to get any offense going against the tenacious defense for Mines.
The lone goal was scored half way into the first period when freshman Acacia Ortiz got behind the CCU defense and took a pass from junior Holly Weyand. She fired it past goalie
Shaya Lawrence who nearly made the diving stop. The second half was a defensive chess match as each team failed to get their offenses going. Mines dominated the overall shot attempts as they fired 14 shots, compared to only four shots from the Cougars.
With the loss, the Cougars are now 0-9-2 on the year and 0-6-1 in conference play. Their next game will be another home affair as they take on Adams State University Friday morning at Lakewood Memorial Field with game time scheduled for 10AM.
