It was the second night of the RMAC/Heartland Challenge and the Colorado Christian Men's Basketball team was taking on St. Edwards University from Austin, TX. The Cougars worked hard, but came up short just five points 85-80.
Â
The Hilltopper's came out ready to play and ran the court for the first half. They had eight of their nine total threes come from the first period. This shooting display had the Cougs on their toes. Thankfully Christian shot better form the free throw line going 11-15 in the first half. SEU had their largest lead by 16 points at 13:18 in the first. From there it was catch up for blue and gold.
Â
After getting a feel for how the HIlltopper's play, the Cougs came out of the locker room ready to defend their home court. CCU attacked St. Edwards with a more balanced play and found a rhythm for their game.
Zach McLemore, CCU point guard from Tallahassee, FL scored 24 points on the night and played the team high of 33 minutes. Colo. Christian senior,
Wayne McCullough led the team in points with 25, and
Ty McGee led in rebounds with nine.
Â
Christian was able to shut down Edward's three point attack, giving up only one more three point field goal in the second half making them 9-30. Unfortunately undisciplined defense by blue and gold gave the Hilltopper's 14 total offensive rebounds. The Cougars are still trying to find their identity as a young team, and will look to build on a strong effort that was displayed in this game.
Â
CCU Men's Basketball will be playing in an exhibition game against University of Northern Colorado at UNC on 11/17/15 at 7:00pm.
