The Cougars took to the court Saturday night looking for their second straight victory over Simon Fraser University. Strong play in the second half helped the Cougs secure the victory by a final score of 89-79. The game looked like it was going to be decided on the defensive side of things after a low scoring first half, but both teams were able to build some momentum on the offensive side of the ball in the second.
Â
The first half was a back and forth battle between the two teams, but Colorado Christian was able to gain the edge as they headed into halftime with a 38-34 lead over Simon Fraser. Stefan Hackenthal put on a shooting clinic in the game, and was nearly perfect in the first half as he hit four out of five from behind the three point line and added another field goal to finish the first half with 14 points.
Â
Simon Fraser opened up the second half on a little run of their own, and within a couple of minutes of play that had erased their deficit and taken a one point lead at 41-40. Both teams traded buckets over the next few minutes, but then the Cougars began to pull away. Hackenthal and
Zach McLemore put the team on their backs and carried them to victory. McLemore scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half, and Hackethal added another 14. Simon Fraser was not able to keep up with the offensive onslaught put on them by the Colorado Christian, as they won emphatically by a final score of 89-79.
Â
Four Cougars finished the game in double figures led by Stefan Hackenthal, who finished the game as the leading scorer with 28 points. He hit seven out of ten from downtown and added three other field goals from the field.
Zach McLemore finished with 22 points and did the majority of his damage from the charity stripe as he shot 10-12 from the free throw line.
Ty McGee and
Wayne McCullough each had 12 in the game and were the leading rebounders for the team as well. McGee pulled down six rebounds, and McCullough had nine.
