In an exhibition game on Friday, CCU traveled to the Air Force Academy to take on the Falcons. Christian played well and kept it within reaching distance throughout the game, but eventually fell to Air Force by a final score of 96-83.
Â
It was an evenly matched game as both teams were playing in their first official exhibition game of the 2015-2016 season. The Falcons jumped out to an early lead as CCU struggled from the floor in the first half. At halftime Air Force was up by 17 as the score was 50-33. The Cougars shot 37.5% (9-24) from the field and less than 50% (8-17) from the free throw line in the first half.
Â
The team made the proper adjustments at halftime and came out firing in the second half. They outscored the Falcons in the second half, but it was not enough to close the gap. The Falcons were the aggressors especially rebounding the ball. They out rebounded CCU 50-27, and their 14 offensive rebounds provided them with a number of second chance points. Â
Â
The Cougars were led on the night by sharp shooting guard
Zach McLemore. The sophomore put his shooting skills on display scoring 27 points and went 6-12 from beyond the three point line. The Cougars had three others score in double figures for the game,
Isaiah Hanson had 14,
Andre Lane had 11, and
Ty McGee also had 11.
Â
It was a good showing for Coach
Kevin Lubbers and his team. Their next game action will be their home opener as they face off against Dallas Baptist University next Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm MST and the game will be played at the CCU Event Center in Lakewood, CO.
