Sunday's women's soccer game against UC Colorado Springs marked the last of the 2015 non-conference season for Colorado Christian University. Though the Cougars were unable to pull off a win (1-0), their effort proved impressive against a nationally-ranked UCCS squad.Â
Playing their toughest defense of the season, Colorado Christian withstood an aggressive assault from the home Mountain Lions. UCCS totaled 22 shots in their win, but struggled to get anything past Cougar goalie Shaya Lawrence. The senior from Littleton wrapped the game with a season-high 12 saves, frustrating the Mountain Lions with her stingy protection of the CCU goal.
Unfortunately, persistence paid off for the home team, as a shot by UCCS forward Taylor Braden finally found the back of the net. With just a little more than 18 minutes left to play, Braden's goal put the Springs squad up 1-0 - enough for the win.
The Cougars closed out the game with just four shots, and only one on goal. Though their defense will fuel them into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, their offense will remain a focus as they prep for Friday's contest at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, UT.
