Colorado Christian Volleyball opened their RMAC season Friday, winning big in front of a raucous home crowd. The Cougars downed conference opponent Black Hills State in the four-set affair, winning 25-19, 25-22, 14-25, 25-17 to move to 6-5 on the year and 1-0 in league play.
Â
Playing shorthanded for much of the night, the blue and gold used an impressive team effort to get the job done against the Yellow Jackets. Helping set the bar was senior setter
Jordan Carswell, who executed a Christian offense that had five hitters with at least 18 attempts.
Mollie Bailey's effort on the pin marked a match-high, as the junior from Austin, TX tallied 12 kills off the bench.
Â
Using an aggressive attack that started at the service line, CCU's Cougars rattled the visiting Jackets, forcing them out of system for much of the match. Four aces from Carswell – three of them coming in the final set – crippled BHSU and fanned Colorado Christian's spark into flame. A scrappy defense anchored by libero
Joelle LeFevre further ignited the Cougars, entertaining CCU fans along the way.
Â
For the eighth time this season, LeFevre turned in a 20+ dig performance (23). On the season, the sophomore from Fruita and current RMAC dig leader is averaging 5.46 digs per set.
Â
Another home match remains on the Colorado Christian schedule for the weekend – CCU will host South Dakota Mines in the Event Center at 3 pm on Saturday.
