CCU Volleyball advanced to 2-0 in RMAC play after winning in dominating fashion Saturday at the Event Center. The Cougars made quick work of a visiting South Dakota Mines team, sprinting to a heavy-handed 25-19, 25-10, 25-21 victory less than 24 hours after downing Black Hills State in their conference debut.Â
"This was a very big weekend for us in conference play," explained Head Coach Andria Harshman. "We've had some big adversity already this season and this group has embraced the struggles every time. Rather than buckling, they've risen to the occasion. I am so excited to see how we continue to build on what has become a very good foundation."
Colorado Christian owned the match from the get-go, following the lead of middles Sophia Proano and Hope Baldrica. Proano and Baldrica ignited fans with thunderous kills, combining for 15 with just four miscues. The two also accounted for seven blocks, helping CCU better the Hardrockers eight to three at the net.Â
A paltry Mines offense proved no match for Christian's high-powered attack. SDSMT managed a meager .042 attack clip compared to .255 from the Cougars. In fact, the Rockers more than doubled CCU's attack errors as the home team committed an average of just four per set.Â
Proano and Mollie Bailey led the Colorado Christian assault, tallying 11 and seven kills, respectively. Their efforts helped the Cougars to a 37-kill showing. From the pins, right side Angela Jurek and outside Connie Olson each totaled six kills and only one error.
Now 8-5 on the year, CCU will return to the road this week for a pair of RMAC games at CSU Pueblo and Western State.
