Cougars Still Perfect in RMAC Play

Colorado Christian Volleyball picked up their third-straight victory Friday night, winning in five sets at Colorado State Pueblo to remain unblemished in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

The night's first set established the tone for the match, as the squads struggled for the upper hand in a 30-28 slugfest. Though they dropped the opener, the Cougars roared back in the second to tie the match with a 25-20 win. Set three belonged to the blue and gold as well, with senior Kaylee Pierce (three kills, no errors) leading Colorado Christian to a 25-21 victory.

Though the Thunderwolves extended the match with a win in set four, the deciding game belonged to the Cougars. Pierce went perfect again to help lift CCU in their first road RMAC contest of the season, as the Cougars wrapped the night with a 15-9 decision.

Pierce's effort at the net marked the best of the season for the Centennial, CO native. The senior hit .467 from the pin, notching 15 kills and only one error for CCU.

Three more Christian players tallied double-digit kills for the Cougars, as Sophia Proano, Connie Olson, and Mollie Bailey combined for 38 kills to help the Cougar offense better CSUP (68-61). Defensively, the scales favored the visitors as well, as Olson led them to a 66-dig showing. Olson's 17 marked a match-high.

"Tonight was a great conference victory on the road for us," head coach Andria Harshman explained after the win. "We had a few key players really step up as the match went on, and when we made adjustments the entire team contributed at crucial points. Kaylee was absolutely dominant on the right side for our offense and Proano was very effective and a threat in the middle for us as well.

"We're starting to find confidence in our team's strengths in addition to adjusting to our opponents throughout the match and pulling matches out because of it."

CCU will remain on the RMAC road through the weekend, scheduled to battle Western State in Gunnison. The duel begins Saturday at 7 pm.
