Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UCCS Downs Christian on the Road

UC Colorado Springs pulled away from the Colorado Christian Soccer late in the Friday night's second half to secure a 4-1 victory in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The loss marked the seventh-straight for a still winless CCU squad .

The home Mountain Lions had the upper hand offensively throughout the game as they nearly doubled the amount of shots taken by CCU (20-11). Emotions ran high all night as the two teams combined for 17 fouls and three yellow cards. The Cougars battled for 90 minutes and gave UC Colorado Springs everything they could handle, but in the end it was not enough to get the blue and gold the win.

The Mountain Lions got off to a fast start as they netted the first goal of the game just three and a half minutes in. The opening strike was scored by J.R. Calhoun and assisted by Josh Berntsson. Berntsson accounted for the next UCCS goal just four minutes later as he was able to sneak one past Christian keeper Brandon Eide. After spotting the Mountain Lions a two- goal lead, Colorado Christian settled down and held the home team scoreless for the rest of the first  period.

Beginning the second half down 2-0, the Cougars went on the offensive to attempt to cut the deficit. Ten minutes in, sophomore Joe Wilkes put in CCU's first goal on the night and cut the Mountain Lion lead down to one. Unfortunately that was as close as the Cougars would get, as UCCS added two late scores to go on to win 4-1.

With the loss the Colorado Christian men are now 0-7 overall and 0-3 in RMAC play. The squad will get another chance at their first victory of the year as they head to Metro State University Sunday to take on the Roadrunners in another conference contest. Game time is scheduled for 2:30PM.
