The Cougs took their fourth straight win on Saturday night in a five-set frenzy vs Black Hills State University. Blue and gold won the first and fourth sets, and then finished set five with style 15-12.
Â
Christian started off with a solid win in the first set 25-19. They hit well and had four blocks compared to the Yellow Jackets .000 attack percent, zero blocks, and two receive errors. It was a quick switch of momentum in set two, where BH adjusted to the Cougs and had four blocks, hitting .062%. Colo. Christian hit .000% with ten kills and ten errors losing 23-25.
Â
After set two, the teams were 1-1 battling for the advantage of winning set three. Black Hills did not let up, and the Cougs were struggling in some of their stronger positions. The Yellow Jackets ruled on offense totaling 15 kills, with BHSU's MH #13 Cheyenne Palu hitting .556% with five kills. CCU battled but was defeated on offense and lacked in their defense, picking up three less digs than the Jackets 17-20. BHSU won 25-22.
Â
Colorado Christian modified their line-up after not seeing much success on the outside in the first three games. In order to win there needed to be more options at the net. #9 Senior outside hitter
Mollie Bailey was that option and made the change for the Cougs with five kills, hitting .400%. Bailey, along with the rest of the front line stepped up and hit a team high of .312%, and had three blocks in set four.
Â
It was a toss-up going into the fifth. Both squads had proved themselves deserving of the win, but only one would come out on top. The Jackets launched a full-force attack in the beginning of the game getting up on the Cougs 1-4. With a set that only goes to 15 points, catch-up was not a good situation to be in for the Cougars. Black Hills continued to stay ahead all the way until 7-4 where a service errors by the Yellow Jackets propelled the Cougars comeback.

#16 middle hitter
Angela Jurek was on the service line, and hit three tough balls over the net that caused three attack errors by BH's leading outside hitter #17 Danielle Torpey. Jurek would serve two more points, one of those being an ace. The score was now 10-7 Cougs. It went 10-8, 12-8, 14-8, and all CCU had to do was play defense and put the ball away, but they made three errors, allowing the Yellow Jackets to come back 14-12. Now all the Cougs had to do was receive the ball and put it away. They didn't put it away with a hit, but with a massive block by blue and gold that ended the match 15-12 CCU.
