Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

CCU Overpowered by Skyhawks

Colorado Christian took to the field on Friday afternoon, as they were looking to defend their home turf against conference opponent Fort Lewis College. The Skyhawks offensive attack proved to be too much to handle for the Cougs, as Fort Lewis shutout CCU by a final score of 3-0.

The Christian defense was stout to begin the game anchored by senior defender Sam Walbearer. Despite the stingy defense, the Skyhawks took advantage of a mistake in the ninth minute of the game, as a foul by a CCU defender inside the box setup Fort Lewis for the penalty kick. Senior keeper Brandon Eide did all he could, but FLC was able to capitalize and give them the early 1-0 lead.

It was a defensive battle throughout the remainder of the first half, as the Cougars defense was able to thwart any offensive chance Fort Lewis was throwing at them. Heading into the break, CCU still trailed 1-0.

The Skyhawks offensive attack opened up the second half with an up-tempo pace, and really turned up the pressure. Fort Lewis added two more goals in the second half, the first coming in the 62nd minute, followed by the final score of the game which came in the 81st minute.

CCU had two good scoring chances late in the second half. Blake Goodale narrowly missed netting his sixth goal of the season as he sent a header just high above the goal in the 66th minute. The second scoring chance came off of the foot of Christian Redin, when he sent a shot towards the goal from just outside the box, but the Skyhawks keeper was able to make the diving save.

The Cougars are now 1-12 on the year, and 1-8 in conference play. They will be back in action on Sunday Oct. 16th when they face off against Adams State University. The game will be at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO. Come out and support the team on senior day, as CCU will honor the five seniors on head coach Gary Evans team. Game time is set for 12PM MST.
