Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Winning Streak Comes to a Close

CCU Volleyball took on one of the toughest teams in the RMAC on Friday night. Colorado mesa ranks third in conference 8-1, following Mines and Metro who are 9-0. CCU was defeated by the Mavericks dropping them to 6-3 in conference play.

The match went to five sets. The Cougars won the second and fourth sets 25-23 and then 28-26, but lost their steam in the fifth dropping the set 10-15.

Blue and gold led in two categories vs Colroado Mesa. First they totaled eight aces compared to the Mavericks three, with freshman Aubrey Parker claiming half of those eight. Second, the Cougar block was once again impenetrable having double Mesa's count with 12 total team blocks. Middle Hitter, #10 Hope Baldrica played a phenomenal game at the net roofing three solos and seven assists.

Despite CCU's strengths, they were unable to hang with the Mavericks power house offense. CMU defeated the Cougs with 75 kills, compared to Christian's 56, and they hit an outstanding .261% in five sets. Mesa hit over .200% in every set, which is very rare. The Cougars hit .185%, with right side #5 Sophia Proano leading the pack.

Proano had 18 kills and three blocks. #3 Taylor Sturms made 14 kills and 15 digs, and Mariela Gonzalez led CCU in the back row with 18 digs.

Colorado Christian will be playing at Western State Colorado on Saturday Oct.15th 7:00 PM MST.
