Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougars Grounded by Skyhawks

The men's soccer team traveled to Durango, CO on Friday afternoon as they took on Fort Lewis College. The Skyhawks scored twice in the first half, which was good enough to give them the 2-0 victory over Colorado Christian. The matchup between the two teams was the second time they have faced off in the last seven days, as Fort Lewis defeated CCU 3-0 on Oct. 14th.

Both defenses set the tempo early, as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard during the first 30 minutes of action. The Cougars blinked first, as the Skyhawks were able to score the opening goal of the game in the 33rd minute. The goal came off of a corner kick, which was then headed in by a Fort Lewis attacker. Ten minutes later, Fort Lewis capitalized on another scoring opportunity which gave them a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, FLC continued to keep the pressure on the Cougar defense with their offensive attack. Senior keeper Brandon Eide kept the Cougs within striking distance, as he prevented the Skyhawks from adding to their lead. One of the best scoring chances for the Cougars came in the final minutes of the game. Freshman Luke Vaughn broke down the left side of the zone, and as he reached the box, he fired a shot that trickled just left of the net.

With the loss, the Cougars record now sits at 1-14 overall, and 1-10 in conference play. They will be back in action on Sunday Oct. 23rd, when they will face off against Adams State in Alamosa, CO. Game time is set for 1PM MST.
