Cougars Buzz Past Yellow Jackets

Colorado Christian took to the field on Friday afternoon for their final home game of the season. They did not disappoint as they throttled Black Hills State by a final score of 9-0. CCU gave their fans a show, as they get ready for the final push towards postseason play.

Prior to the game, the team acknowledged their five seniors on the team, and all of the work and dedication that they have given to the program during their tenures. Shaya Lawrence, Caitlyn Troupe, Madison Stanton, Mariah Fredericks, and Meghan Troupe were all joined on the field by their families as they were introduced for their final home game.

As for the game, the Cougars scoring barrage began in the 8th minute when Alyssa Regalado found the back of the net thanks to an assist by Madison Stanton. The score remained 1-0 until the 24th minute when Mariah Fredericks scored her first goal of the game. Just over a minute late, Madison Stanton fired a shot past the Yellow Jackets keeper to give CCU a 3-0 lead. The scoring was not done in the first half, as Alyssa Regalado took a pass from Mollie Monson and had a breakaway attempt towards the net. She capitalized on her opportunity which gave the Cougs a 4-0 lead heading into the break.

CCU remained on fire coming out of halftime, as they scored their fifth goal five minutes after the start of the second. The goal was scored by Mariah Fredericks and assisted by Alyssa Regalado. Fredericks returned the favor in the 58th minute, as she assisted on Regalado's third goal of the game. Sarah Butler continued the scoring as she knocked home her first goal of the season in the 60th minute. Fredericks also earned a hat trick in the game, as she scored her third goal of the game in the 66th minute. The cherry on top of a day filled with offensive firepower, came off of the foot of senior defender Caitlyn Troupe. Troupe deposited a free kick into the back of the net in the 78th minute, which capped off the day for the team, and gave them the 9-0 victory over Black Hills State.

Head coach Tammy McPherson talked about the importance of the victory after the game, "This was a must win for us today in regard to our RMAC standing, but more importantly for our seniors. I'm very proud of our five seniors, as well as their supporting teammates."

The win brings the Cougars record back to .500 overall as they are now 6-6-3 on the year, and 3-4-3 in conference play. The team will have the rest of the weekend off, as they prepare for the final two games of the season, starting with Adams State on Oct. 28th.
