CCU Defeated in Final Minute Against CSUP

Colorado Christian took on CSU-Pueblo on Sunday afternoon for the final game of the regular season. After a scoreless first half, both teams scored in the second, but the Thunderwolves scored with less than 30 seconds left to beat CCU by a final score of 3-2.

Neither team could gain an advantage in the first half, as the score remained tied 0-0 heading into halftime. In the second half, the Cougars were able to get on the board first in the 54th minute. Christian Redin controlled the ball deep into the CSUP zone, and fired a shot from just outside of the top of the box. The ball snuck past the Thunderwolves keeper, and gave the Cougs the 1-0 lead. It was the second goal of the year for Redin.

CSUP had a quick answer, as they scored their first goal of the game just a minute later in the 55th minute. Just 23 seconds later, the Thunderwolves scored the go ahead goal after an attacker collected a rebound in the Cougars zone and shot it past CCU keeper Brandon Eide to give them their first lead of the game 2-1.

CCU caught the break they needed in the 75th minute, as they drew a foul which gave the Cougars a free kick opportunity from 40 yards out. Genaro Arellano took the free kick, and placed a perfect pass into the box, which is where Blake Goodale headed it into the net to even up the score 2-2. It was the team leading seventh goal for Goodale, and the first assist for Arellano.

The game looked to be heading into overtime, but CSUP had other ideas in mind. A strong throw in from a Thunderwolves attacker, went sailing into the box, and into the head of his teammate, who sent it past Eide to give them the lead with 23 seconds left.

With the loss, the Cougars regular season comes to a close with their record sitting at 1-17 overall, and 1-13 in conference play. The team will take part in the NCCAA Regional tournament, which will be hosted by CCU beginning on Nov.17th.
