Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars Dominate in Sweep of Grizzlies

CCU dominated all phases of the game on Friday night, as they earned a sweep of Adams State. The Cougars took out the Grizzlies in straight sets 25-21, 25-22, and 25-17. The CCU Event Center was filled with the color pink, as it was the annual Dig Pink Night. All Proceeds from the game are going for the fight against breast cancer.

At the break in between the second and third set, the Cougars took time to acknowledge a friend of the program who is battling breast cancer. Jan Gager, a family friend of Taylor Sturms, has been battling cancer since 2009. In a touching show of support, the team gathered around her to show her that she was not in this battle alone. Head coach Andria Harshman spoke about the gesture after the game saying, "Tonight was a really good opportunity for us as a program to step aside from ourselves and look at supporting someone who has been battling cancer. Jan's battle with this disease has been going on since 2009, and it was an honor to be able to share this match, and this memory, with her and her family."

As for the game, Colorado Christian put on a show offensively, as the team attack percentage was a stellar .390%. CCU had only 10 errors in the match, and were able to force 15 errors by ASU. The lopsided stats continued as CCU had a big advantage in kills (51-36), assists (51-33), and digs (55-39).

Leading the way for the Cougars on the night was the strong play from Taylor Sturms, Sophia Proano, Mollie Bailey, and Hope Baldrica. Sturms tied for the team lead with 13 kills, and had a hit percentage of .417%. Bailey also had 13 kills on the night and her hit percentage was also an impressive .375%. Proano had 12 kills, and hit .440% in the match. Baldrica led the team with a .667 hitting percentage, as she tallied six kills in nine attempts. Kylee Wurster did a great job setting her aforementioned teammates up, as she had 46 assists on the night.

Coach Harshman on her team's performance after the game, "We executed our game plan very well tonight, and all pieces just seemed to be clicking. This is a good conference win for us, and we are looking forward to turning around and responding to another conference match tomorrow for homecoming!"

The win improves the Cougars record to 13-5 overall, and 5-2 in conference play. It will be a quick turnaround for the team as they will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Fort Lewis College. The game will begin at 2PM MST, and will be held at the CCU Event Center in Lakewood, CO.
