The Cougars took to the floor on Saturday night to square off against Dallas Baptist University in the final game of the RMAC/Heartland Conference Challenge. The Cougars had another strong offensive performance and beat the Patriots by a final score of 90-81. This is the first 2-0 start for the Cougs since the 2004-2005 season, in which they went 19-9 on the year.
Â
For the second straight game, Colorado Christian got off to a slow start and saw themselves in an early deficit. Just one minute into play DBU had built themselves a seven point lead. Christian settled into play, and began to chip away at the deficit. With 11:41 left in the first half, the Cougars trailed 22-30. From that point, Christian went on a 25-4 run to close out the first half, and took a commanding 13 point lead heading into the break.
Â
Leading the way on the offensive end in the first half was the efficient play from
Brett Brady and
Ty McGee. Brady finished the first with 12 points on 4-5 shooting from the floor, and hit 3-4 from beyond the arc. McGee had 15 in the half on 5-9 shooting and also had five rebounds.
Â
A talented DBU team came out in the second half determined to get back into the game. They slowly cut into the Cougar lead. With just over 10 minutes remaining into the game, the Patriots had come all the way back and had taken a one point lead 63-64 over CCU. From that point the two teams continued to exchange buckets and the lead, but thanks to some great shooting down the stretch, the Cougars were able to stay on top and win by a final score of 90-81.
Â
Brett Brady led the team in scoring as he finished with 24 points. He made 5-9 from downtown and hit all three shots he took from the free throw line.
Ty McGee scored 21, and also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Dimitri Saliba finished with 19 points on 6-9 shooting from the floor, and he led the team in assists with six.

Head coach
Kevin Lubbers said after the game, "Great way to close the weekend out. Coach Flickner and DBU have a tremendous program. Although this was a good win for us, we have a lot to improve on as we move into next week and our exhibition game against the University of Northern Colorado. Coach Mulder did a great job with scouting this week to put our team in a position to be successful. We were able to make enough plays to finish the game out."
Â
It will be a busy upcoming week for Colorado Christian as they head up to Greeley, CO to take on the University of Northern Colorado in an exhibition game on Nov. 16
th at 7PM MST. Then they will travel to Idaho for a pair of games over the weekend against The College of Idaho, and Northwest Nazarene University.
