Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars Roar Through First Day of Regional Tournament

The Cougars opened the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament with a win against Grace University (Nebraska). CCU won in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-14.

Grace University is a member of the NCCAA, and is applying to be apart of the NAIA this year. The Royals Volleyball squad is 13-19 overall this 2016 season.

The Cougs started the match off with a ten-point lead 11-1 thanks to #4 Abigail Bartalo's deathly jump float. CCU dominated on the service line earning ten aces that hindered the Royals from any offense whatsoever.

Christian on the other hand hit a team total attack percent of .419%, which was by far the best hitting percentage in a match they had all season long. CCU had 43 kills and only seven errors in the match with right side hitter #5 Sophia Proano putting 14 balls down off 18 attempts and one error. The First Team All-RMAC athlete hit .722% in three sets (her best this season).

Blue and gold was able to run a different line-up against Grace acting out a 6-2 system with #18 Kylee Wurster (26 assists) and #2 Bailey Crenshaw (14 assists) sharing the setting duties. #13 Nicole Williams made her first appearance on the court this season on the right side and had five kills no errors, hitting .625%.

It was a fun first day of the tournament for Colorado Christian as they won vs Grace University and then also took the victory in their second match against McMurry University in three.

McMurry University is the three seed in the tournament as CCU claims the top of the list. Earlier in the day McMurry was beaten by Oklahoma Baptist University (second seed).

The War Hawks struggled on offense throughout all three sets and hit a .032%. Despite the low stat, McMurry had some big kills from #15 Justice McGowan and #11 Katy Headrick.

CCU's top hitters Taylor Sturms and Sophia Proano ran the front row with 13 kills for Sturms and 12 for Proano. Without pressure from McMurry CCU was able to dominate on all levels of the game, but especially on offense.

The tournament will continue into Friday Nov. 18th with CCU playing at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
