The Lady Cougs went 4-0 to win the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament. CCU will be going to the NCCAA National Tournament the first week of December in Kissimmee, FL.
Â
On the second day of the regional tournament CCU played Southwestern Christian University and Oklahoma Baptist University. CCU swept both squads in three quick sets, just like they did to Grace University and McMurry University on the first day of the tournament.
Â
After CCU had beaten Southwestern, and OBU beat Grace, both teams were 3-0 and decided to move up the championship game to 3:00 PM. Originally the championship game was set for 10:00 am Saturday, but both coaches agreed that they would rather determine the winner in one match instead of two.
Â
Colorado Christian was unstoppable against the Bisons, and in the tournament as a whole. On the second day, leading the Cougs in kills was outside hitter #1
Cali Bahnsen who had 19 total. Outside hitter,
Taylor Sturms and right side hitter,
Sophia Proano both had 16 kills on the day. Sturms also totaled 19 digs. Libero, #17
Mariela Gonzalez had 28 digs in the six sets.
Â
The Cougs tough serves and relentless defense prevented both SWCU and OBU to score. CCU on the other hand stole the show in the front row beating their opponents in kills and attack percentage. Vs Southwestern blue and gold hit .294% with 41 kills. The Eagles hit .036% with 24 kills and 20 errors. Vs Oklahoma Baptist CCU hit .250% with 39 kills. The Bisons hit .151% with 37 kills and 19 errors.
Â
CCU's middle hitters,
Hope Baldrica and
Angela Jurek were outstanding on defense in the front. Baldrica had three solo blocks and two assists against OBU and Jurek had nine blocks on the day.
Â
CCU Volleyball is now 24-10 overall this season and will continue to compete in the NCCAA post season.
