Lady Cougs Take Down #1 Grace College

The CCU Women's Soccer team defeated the #1 seed Grace College 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Kissimmee, FL. CCU went undefeated in pool play at the NCCAA National Tournament and will be competing in the semifinals on Friday, Dec. 2nd at 2:00 PM EST.

Colorado Christian came in to the National Tournament as the six seed. Their first game was against the nine seed, John Wesley University. The Cougars defeated JWU 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The momentum from their first win showed up in their play against Grace. The Cougs dominated the field and controlled the ball well. The Cougar defense was outstanding in the back with Kennady McCullough and Caitlyn Troupe winning possessions and shutting down the Lancers' offense.

The game winning goal was scored by CCU Senior #11 Mariah Fredericks in the 82nd minute off a penalty kick in the box. Fredericks has a total of ten goals this season and is in the running for tying and/or breaking the CCU Women's Soccer record in goals in a single season, which is currently held by Natalie Tafoya who scored 11 goals in 1999.

Along with Fredericks, junior transfer #3, Alyssa Regalado is also in the running for breaking school history in most goals in a single season. Regalado has ten goals this season. Against Grace, Regalado led the Cougars on offense with five total shots, four on goal. As a team CCU had 13 shots compared to Grace College's five.
