Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

CCU Blanks San Diego Christian

Colorado Christian finished off their California road trip in style on Sunday afternoon, as they were able to defeat San Diego Christian College by a final score of 2-0. The win marks the first shutout for the Cougars on the year, and also gets them back above .500 with a record of 3-2-0 heading into conference play next week.

It was a tough match for the majority of the first half, as neither team could get on the scoreboard for the first 30 minutes. However, in the 31st minute, the Cougars jumped out in front thanks to the first goal of the season from Alyssa Regalado. Assisting on the goal was freshman Sarah Butler, whose pass gave Regalado the scoring chance, which she capitalized on. It was the first assist on the year for Butler, and marks her first collegiate point tallied. Heading into the break, CCU had the 1-0 lead over the Hawks.

The second half was similar to the first, as the Cougars continued their strong defensive effort, and were able to keep SDCC from getting on the board. Mollie Monson provided an insurance goal for the Cougs as she found the back of the net with a well-placed header to beat the Hawks keeper. Defense reigned supreme, as CCU was able to hold SDCC to just five shot attempts for the game, with only one attempt coming in the second half. Shaya Lawrence picked up her first victory in goal on the year, and helped her team earn their first shutout victory on the young season.

The win helps build momentum, as Colorado Christian will return home to begin conference play next weekend. The RMAC schedule opens up for the Cougs on Friday Sep.16th, as they face off against Regis University. The game will be held at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO, and will begin at 12PM MST.
