Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Notches First Win

The Cougars secured their first victory of the season on Friday night as they defeated CSU-Pueblo in overtime by a final score of 2-1. Sebastian Roeder netted the game winner for CCU in the 91st minute. The team is now 1-1 in conference play.

It was an evenly matched game throughout the first half and neither team was able to get on the scoreboard. Goalkeeper Brandon Eide saved both shots on goal in the half, matching the work from the Thunderwolves keeper, who also saved two shots in the half.

CSUP got on the board early in the second half to take a 1-0 lead. The goal came off of a well-executed corner kick, that they were able to get past Eide. The goal came just over three minutes in. Once again, the defenses were matching blows until the 72nd minute, when CCU was able to score the equalizer. Blake Goodale scored his first goal of the year, which knotted the score 1-1 with just under 17 minutes left in regulation. Neither team could score in the remaining time, so the game headed into overtime.

Just 1:56 into the first overtime, the Cougs found the back of the net to finish off CSUP. Nate Flack secured a rebound off of a defender and fed his teammate Sebastian Roeder, who shot it past the Thunderwolves keeper for the game winner. It was the first goal of the season for Roeder, and the first assist for Flack.

With the win, the Cougars record now sits at 1-5-0 on the year, and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Cougars will be heading home for their next matchup against Metro State. That game will take place on Friday Sep. 23 at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO. Game time is set for 12PM MST.
