Colorado Christian took to the field on Friday afternoon to face off against Metro State. The Roadrunners got the last laugh in the game, as they defeated the Cougars by a final score of 5-1. CCU was looking to build off of the momentum they earned from their last game out as they beat CSU-Pueblo, but MSUD used a strong offensive attack to stifle the Cougs.
Â
Metro got the scoring underway in the first half just nine minutes into the game. Freshman Dylan Wood collected a rebound off of CCU keeper
Brandon Eide, and deposited it into the back of the net to give MSUD the early 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners added another goal off of a penalty kick in the 42
nd minute, which gave them the 2-0 lead over CCU heading into the break.
Â
Just over 13 minutes into the second half, a foul by a CCU defender gave Metro another penalty kick, which they were able to capitalize on and push their lead to 3-0. CCU had an answer in the 63
rd minute when
Blake Goodale netted a penalty kick of his own, which cut into the Roadrunner lead. It was the second goal of the season for Goodale. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Cougars would get, as Metro added two goals late in the game to down Colorado Christian by a 5-1 final score.
Â
With the loss, the CCU record now sits at 1-6-0 on the year, and 1-2-0 in conference play. They will be back in action on Sunday Sep. 25
th for another home game as they square off against UCCS. The game will be at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO, and will begin at 12PM MST.
