Cougars Win at Home vs MSUD

The CCU Women's Soccer Team defeated Metro State University Denver on Sunday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium 2-1. The Cougs are now 5-2 overall and undefeated in conference 2-0.
 
CCU Women's Soccer proved themselves as a competitive, talented squad in preseason, but opening up RMAC was going to determine a lot for the Cougars. After a 2-1 OT win against Regis on Friday, it was apparent that the Cougs had created a winning atmosphere this season, and were not going to back down.
 
Metro State was coming off a 2-0 loss from Colorado School of Mines, with an overall record of 1-2-1. The Roadrunners came out strong in the first, outshooting blue and gold 6-2. But it wasn't until a minute in-a-half into the second that MSUD scored the first goal of the game.
 
After Metro's goal, the Cougs grabbed possession of the ball and started controlling the game. A series of shots on goal by Colo. Christian had the fans out of their seats, but the score still remained 1-0 Metro. The Cougars rolled with momentum, and it was only a matter of time. Then in the 61st minute, #8 Sheridan Spelman passed the ball to #3 Alyssa Regalado, who booted the ball into the back of Metro's net. The game became a draw 1-1.
 
Metro State followed with four more shots against the Cougs, and CCU had seven. The second goal for the Cougs was by yet again #3 Alyssa Regalado. In the 80th minute, Lauren Cardoza took the corner kick, passing a perfect ball into goal zone, where Regalado headed the ball into the right side of the net. The Cougars played ten more minutes, shutting the Roadrunners down and winning the game 2-1.
 
Stat Leaders:
Alyssa Regalado totaled five shots, four on goal, with two goals. #11 Mariah Fredericks had three shots, one on goal, and #9 Kielli Jordan had two shots. #17 Mollie Monson also had a shot on Metro's goal. #8 Sheridan Spelman and #21 Lauren Cardoza took the assists.
Goal Keeper #00, Shaya Lawrence had four saves and one against.
 
Women's Soccer plays against the undefeated Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Sept. 25th at 12:00 PM in Golden, CO.
