Colorado Christian traveled to Golden, CO on Sunday afternoon to take on the third ranked Colorado School of Mines squad. Mines was able to edge the Cougars thanks to a goal in the 83
rd minute, which handed CCU the 1-0 defeat.
Â
It was an uneventful first half, as both teams went into the game with a defensive mindset. The Orediggers outshot the Cougs 4-0 in the first half, as neither team could find the back of the net as the game went into the break still tied 0-0.
Â
CCU nearly broke the tie in the 55
th minute when
Lauren Cardoza fired a shot which just missed, as it drifted just right of the goal. The game remained tied until the 83
rd minute, when Mines broke through the defense and was able to score the only goal of the game.
Â
Junior
Mallory VanVoorhis got the start in goal for the Cougars on the day, and played well as she held the talented Mines offense at bay throughout the majority of the game. The Orediggers have not given up a goal in the last five games they have played, and has outscored their opponents 10-0 during that same stretch.
Â
The loss drops the Cougars record to 5-3 on the season, and 2-1 in conference play. They will be back in action on Friday Sep. 30
th when they will take on CSU-Pueblo. It will be a home game for CCU, as it will be hosted at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood. The game will begin at 1:30PM MST. Â
