Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Cougs Lose in Extra Points

CCU Volleyball played a conference weekday game against neighboring school Colorado School of Mines.  The Cougs battled, but lost in four sets on their home court.

Christian jumped out strong and took game one from Mines 25-21. The Cougs capitalized on the Oredigger's many errors at the net. CSM hit .100% with 15 kills and 10 errors. CCU had 12 kills, but kept it clean with four errors and a decent attack percentage of .190. In this set, right side junior #5 Sophia Proano had six kills, no errors.

In set two, Colorado Mines woke up and began to put pressure on CCU. The Orediggers erred less, tightened up their block, and strengthen their service line. Christian could feel the heat rise, but would not let it overtake them without a fight.

CCU lost set two 25-20, and then set three 25-22. It all came down to the fourth, which was a kill-crazed set. CCU had 19 kills at .226%, and 35 digs. Mines had 25 kills at .348% with 34 digs. Not once did one team get more than two points ahead of the other. Both sides constantly sided out, Mines trying to grab the win, and CCU battling for a fifth set.

25-25, 26-26, 27-27, all the way until 28-28. Colorado Christian was in serve receive and erred at the net allowing Mines one point closer to the win. The game was lost after a kill by Mines lead scorer #1 MH Ellie Monarch.  Monarch totaled 20 kills.

Despite the tough loss 28-30, there was a sense of pride and accomplishment on the Cougars sideline.

Stat Leaders:
Hope Baldrica played her best game all season with 13 kills, no errors, off 19 attempts (.684%). Baldrica also had four blocks and one solo block.  #5 Sophia Proano had 14 kills at .222%, and OH #3 Taylor Sturms had 11 kills.

In the back row, Libero #17 Mariela Gonzalez had a team high of 22 digs, and DS #4 Abigail Bartalo followed closely behind with 20 digs.

Women's Volleyball will be traveling to Salt Lake City, UT to play Westminster College on Sept. 23rd.
