CCU traveled to Salt Lake City, UT to take on the distant Westminster Griffins. The Cougs swept Westminster in three, making for a happy trip back to Lakewood.
Â
Westminster College was very inconsistent and error prone, enabling Colo. Christian to run away with and easy win. Â The Griffins had four players hit negative, four block errors, and six service errors. The Griffins are 2-9 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Â
The Lady Cougs had a great offensive game, hitting a season high team attack percentage of .319. The Cougars had 43 kills with only five errors. #5
Sophia Proano led blue and gold with 12 kills, zero errors, and three blocks. Senior #3
Taylor Sturms totaled 11 kills at .290%, and Junior #16
Angela Jurek scored seven points, with only one error, hitting .500. Because of CCU's pressure at the net, Westminster totaled nine more digs overall, but it wasn't enough to stop the Cougs from scoring.
Head Coach
Andria Harshman on the game:
"We played very well tonight for our first road conference game. The girls stayed disciplined in the small things and kept our unforced errors down putting a lot of pressure on the other side of the net. This is a great win to come home from!"
Â
CCU defeated the Griffins 25-19, 25-13, and 25-21. This is the only game the Cougars will be playing this weekend, since they had a weekday game against Colorado School of Mines. CCU is now 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the RMAC. The Cougs next game is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 27
th against non-conference school Fort Hays State University.
