Colorado Christian women's soccer took to the field on Sunday afternoon to take on Texas A&M International University looking to build on the momentum from their season opening victory on Thursday. They did just that as they were able to walk away with a 2-1 victory thanks to a dominant offensive performance.
Â
The Cougars were faster and more aggressive during the game, and that was evident as the first half progressed. They had several good scoring chances off of corner kicks thanks to the precise passing from
Lauren Cardoza, but narrowly missed on them. Finally, the Cougs were able to break through in the 28
th minute. Cardoza took a free kick from 35 yards out and placed a perfect pass to teammate
Mollie Monson, who snuck it past the keeper with a well-placed header to put CCU on top 1-0. The Dust Devils answered quickly with a header of their own in the 33
rd minute which knotted the score back at 1-1, which remained the score heading into halftime.
Â
After the break, it was all Colorado Christian, as they turned up the heat on the offensive side. Sophomore
Kielli Jordan broke the tie in the 63
rd minute after a juke got her free from the defender and then used her left foot to blast one into the back of the net. The defense was able to hold up and run the clock out to secure the 2-1 victory. Offensively, CCU outshot TAMIU 23-4, and the Cougar defense did not allow a single shot in the second half.
Â
The win keeps the Cougars perfect with a 2-0-0 record. They will be back in action on Tuesday September 6
th when they take on Wayne State in another home contest. The game will be at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood, CO. The game will start at 3PM MST.
