Cougars Fall Short in Second Half

Lakewood, CO: Colorado Christian Cougars fights hard, but fall to the RMAC's #1 team Fort Lewis College Skyhawks.  Cougars took an early four point lead five minutes into the game. Dimitri Saliba and Ty McGee lead the team early with four points each. With 11 minutes left in the first half, Christian was shooting 8-13 from the floor giving them a 17-14 lead over the Skyhawks. Midway through the first half, Colorado Christian's Brett Brady scored nine points high for CCU, and Dimitri Saliba was close behind with six. With just under eight minutes left, the Skyhawks were able to take control at 25-29 after a 5-0 run. Cougars missed a scoring opportunity going 0-5 in free throws until Ty McGee made a shot with five minutes remaining making it 1-6. The Cougars got up 34-32, and were able to take back the lead with 4:30 left in the first half.  The Skyhawks tied the game late in the first, but the Cougars were able to pull ahead and go into the locker room 43-38.
           
At the half, CCU leaders were: Brett Brady with 16 points, Dimitri Saliba with three assists, and Ty McGee with six rebounds. Colorado Christian had a total of five turnovers to Fort Lewis' nine in the first half. The Cougs shot 50% (17-34) overall and 54.5% (6-11) from the line. Christian had 22 points in the paint and a whopping 16 points off of the Skyhawk turnovers.
           
At the beginning of the second half, blue and gold retained the lead through a lot of back and forth scoring. After Colorado kept the lead for nine minutes, the Hawks took a two point gain making it 56-58. Christian improved on their free throw percentage in the second half making 75% (3-4) of their shots in the first 10 minutes. Fort Lewis had 63-70 lead with 8 minutes remaining in the second half. Colorado Christian's Brett Brady continued to be the top scorer from both teams, and dominate the outside. The Cougs were down 76-82 with four minutes left in the game. The Skyhawks never let go, shooting 63.3% (19-30) to the Cougars 40.6% (13-32) in the second half. Fort Lewis ended up out scoring Colorado Christian 42-55 with 22 points in the paint. Brett Brady ended the night with 30 points and shooting 66.7% (10-15). Ty McGee led the Cougars with 10 rebounds and Dimitri Saliba had seven assists. Ty McGee (6-6), Brett Brady (5-5), and Jacob Taylor (3-3) all shot 100% from the line.
 
Colorado Christian Men's Basketball's next game will be a rematch against Chadron State College who they beat 86-69 back in December. The game will be on February 3rd in Chadron, NE, tipoff for that game will be at 7:30pm MST.
